- Legislation was introduced to legalize physician-assisted suicide in Vermont. Vermont Governor stated he would likely veto this measure.
2004
- After considerable debate, the Vermont Medical Association decided to oppose efforts to legalize physician-assisted suicide in Vermont. Disability rights groups added their opposition to the measure.
- The Chairmen of both the Vermont House and Senate Health and Welfare Committees dealt a blow to efforts to legalize physician-assisted suicide by announcing they will not take action on proposed legislation to legalize.
